Dear General Officers, Presidents, national executives, and members of our NGO
It is with great satisfaction that I approach this newsletter. Indeed, I would like to thank all those who have made possible the International Peacekeepers’ Day possible and who were committed to keep this spirit and this tribute alive in their countries. I would like everyone to send us some photos and a summary of their event so that we can relay this information. As for us, we closed this day which lasted about a week. Indeed, the Secretary General had already laid a wreath in New York on 27 May. Geneva was a great success. This ceremony was divided into three parts: the wreath-laying and the solemn ceremony presided over by the Director General, representing the Secretary General of the United Nations, then the honoring and presentation of decorations, and finally a meeting devoted to the work of AIPS during the year. At the same time, we handed out diplomas to our students in international relations who form the Aristide Briand class.
Finally a great fraternity was shared between the members present, we can say it also with a great sadness not to be able to exchange with our friends of the various AISP national delegations. In spite of this, many of you were present on Facebook live or by video conference. Next year we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of this day. For this anniversary, we have requested the presence of the UN Secretary General, and that we will be able see the photo of the missing peacekeepers and read their names, or even call them so that their memory resounds in the United Nations building.
I would like to thank all those who helped us to make this day a success, and I look forward to seeing you next year. I would like to welcome the creation of AISP India and thank its management team for the trust they have placed in us. Tomorrow we will have a representative from AISP China in our offices to give us news on the creation of this new delegation. I would like to inform you that we have broken off all relations with the team that wanted to create an AISP in Thailand, which was essentially composed of civilians and did not necessarily wish to respect the functioning of AISP and the values that we represent.
Last week we had a very nice conference organized in collaboration with Ukraine and the Kharkov City Hall, focusing on young peacemakers and the excellent work done by Sergei Samolov’s team. Many delegations were present through zoom. I would like to thank and congratulate them. The more we progress in the realization of this program of young peacemakers, the more we can see that it is a continuation of our work. Indeed, we all need to organize ourselves to develop and create this program in our countries, based on the model we have established while respecting the specificity of each of you. We would like to initiate discussions with those who would like to develop it and find middle schools in each country that would agree to set up international correspondences between young peacemakers on the basis of our work. We are looking for addresses, projects and ideas from all of you.
Moreover, we will soon publish the new version of our Blue Helmet News, both electronic and paper versions. We would like to put your articles on the state of your delegation.
Finally, I hope that this pandemic has not affected the health of your members and your associations too much and hope that this liberation thanks to the vaccine will allow us to get together.
